Seriously

I know how crucial a save is.....but come on man. On a Monday night against the Devil Rays Jonathan Papelbon again proved why he is a hated man by the bronx bloggers. After putting men on the corners and a stolen second base, he blew a fastball past Carl Crawford to seal the game. Then with no class pumps his fist and yells like he's been constipated for the past 7 hours. Seriously man? Its May, make the pitch, do your job, shake the catchers hand and go have a beer or something. We all know you are a pretty good closer, but your numbers have been slightly down and Saito HAS been picking up some slack there. Its good to show some emotion but have some class and respect for yourself and your team.

Payback is a.......

Had to double check this box score, with that amount of homers could have sworn this was at NEW yankee stadium. Orioles bombed Phil "Francise" starting with Aubrey Huff's 3 run DINGER and the bleeding didn't stop until 8 runs scored in the 2nd inning. 13 batters came to the plate in the second inning as yankee fans everywhere had nightmarish flash backs of that brutal second inning against the Indians. There's just something about that second inning? At one point in the game it was 11-1 when the Yanks started the surge of offense sparked by THE SWISH (of course!).

Phil Francise came into the game 1-1 with a respectable 2.70 ERA, after Saturdays performance that ERA beefed up like Mo Vaghn and sits at a pretty 8.49.....OUCH! And all that after 1 2/3 innings pitches. That's one of those moments when you watch sports and can say "I can do that". Phil is looking pretty rough right now, but still they should stick with him and build up his confidence, ecspecially after Ian Kennedy's annuerism, they lose a lot of that "pitching depth" (if you consider that depth).

On a brighter note Baltimore threw out Adam Eaton who gave up consecutive homers to Johnny D and Tex with 2 outs in the 5th. Later in the 6th Baltimore RP Danys Baez (on my fantasy team damnit!) gave up a homer to THE SWISH!

QUICK FACTS via espn reporting
-Jeter is now 7 for 7 on SB attempts on the year
-Tex is 6 for 10 lifetime against Eaton, including 2 home runs
-Brett Tomko, called up from Scranton, allowed a homer on the 2 pitch of his outing. Bronx bloggers is now taking donations for a train ticket BACK to Scranton.

TERRIBLE FACTS via espn again
-6th time this season (its MAY) Yankees have given up at least 10 runs, and yes folks that leads the MLB

Sunday is the desperatley needed rubber game, with Joba (thumb permitting) taking the mound, hopefully Yanks win the game and take the series....

The waaaaaaaavvvvvvveeeee of the future? SWITCH pitching??

And the whole time I thought it was the famous "Gyro-Ball"! That's right your read the title correctly my friends, and the answer is NO, I haven't started pounding Zima's too early on a Saturday night. ESPN's Rick Reilly gives us an awesome article about Yankee prospect and current Charleston River Dog reliever Pat Ventitte.
Being a "switchie" involves a specially made six finger mizuno glove so changing pitching hands can be done quickly. Warming up he pitches 4 righty and throws down 4 lefty. What kind of repitore does this consist of?? Right handed he is tossing a 90 mph fastball, a curve, and a nice change. Left handed he throws sidearm and has a "murderous" slider and a change. Is it effective?? "At one point in April, the closer's ERA was 0.00 in 6 1/3 innings, and he hadn't blown a save in five games." "Last season, he had 23 saves for the Staten Island Yankees, with a 0.83 ERA. And best of all, the kid can relieve himself!".
Reilly reports it will be 2 or 3 years before we can possibly see him in pinstripes, but hey, with the way the bullpen looks.......why not??

1.6 Billion will buy ya..............

Remember when you had that old big screen, yeah you know, that one that eventually faded so you had to turn the lights down and tell all your friends it was the DVD's problem (or VHS depending on your age). Well imagine if that T.V. was about 10 stories tall and was only a month old!! Circuit City better cover that warranty. Well apparently yankee officials did not check if the "Diamond Vision" gigantotron that is the center field of the stadium could handle the weather. Might have been one of the first questions i asked....."So is thing ok in the rain, snow, drunk bleacher creatures throwing $20 cups of Henikein?" but thats just me.

In a list of things that STINK about this new stadium.. As my favorite blog Slidingintohome would point out "obstructed seats, empty seats, absolutely zero atmosphere, monument cave, a near riot breaking out, and now a broken video screen". Very nice Yankees I like it!!!! My next post will somehow blame this on Brian Cashman

Hat tip to sliding into home for the pictures........

A ROD!!!

Finally we can go from seeing images like this, clearly displaying A-ROD's lack of acting skills. And also might I add the great ability of his mother to dress him very nicely with a J Crew cashmere sweater and collar poking out every so slightly.

And More images of this... A ROD ballin like he doesnt give a DAMN about Selena Roberts!! Last night all it took was a Jeremy Guthrie decision to toss a 94 mph fast ball his way and change our perception of him completely (well at least as long as it took for him to round the bases) RUN CAREFULLY ALEX!!! 374 foot shot to left center........and finally Alex Rodriguez was back on 3rd base.

Is this the saviour of the yankees season?? Can I just pretend it is? Because for today it feels pretty good. But until he gets into the bullpen I'm not sure how long this post oriole beat down will last.

C.C. staying out there for the complete game does thrill me! ecspecially since he leads the majors in innings pitched the past 3 years making him very likely for an injury but........A ROD is back BEBE!!!

And forget he was 1 for 4 with 2 stikeouts inlcuding a ground out that looked like a very very slow walk to 1st............who cares A ROD is back!!!

So lets hope its that shot in the arm for offense the Yankees need and not a shot in the Arse of what was a "loosey goosey" era. It was a dream," Rodriguez said. "Two months has been a long time. I've been watching a lot of baseball and getting very frustrated. I feel like I'm back with my family now, where I belong." And its a dream to have you back sir. I like Pena, I like Angel, and I really like Ransom, but none of them equal AROD. Maybe if you could fuse them all together and name him Angel Ransom-Pena, but then again this was the first home run by a Yankees third basemen all year......... So lets get it Alex!!! and remember BE LOOSEY GOOSEY!
